Subtle Smiles Releases New Album ‘Significant Other’

Subtle Smiles at Hybrid Studios

Thirteen-song album from Long Beach duo features inviting melodies with lush, layered vocals and thick electronic based production.

The first full album release from Long Beach’s Subtle Smiles, ‘Significant Other’ will be available via all streaming services on February 21st, 2019, with pre-sale beginning February 14th.

Brian Frederick (Producer / Engineer) and Marley Rae (lyrics / vocals) met through the local music group, Bootleg Orchestra. Brian recorded and mixed the band on their first EP, and soon after Marley began singing backup vocals for the group. They soon hit it off and began dating; then on Brian and Marley’s one-year anniversary, they began collaborating on music together, and Subtle Smiles was born. The duo takes its influences from Sylvan Esso, Bonobo, Thievery Corporation, and the Cocteau Twins. ‘Significant Other’ was recorded at Hybrid Studios in Santa Ana, as well as the couple’s apartment in Long Beach, and even on board the Queen Mary.
